What is a Sundress?

There has certainly been a lot of talk this Summer about sundresses and what exactly they are!  A sundress can be classified as a breezy, sleeveless (or sleeved) dress, often made from lightweight materials like cotton or rayon. Perfect for warmer days, it typically has a relaxed fit, flowing silhouette, and comes in a variety of lengths from short to long.  Frequently, sundresses have floral prints, but can also come in solid colors too.

Why Sundresses Are a Must-Have

  • Flattering Fit: Sundresses come in a variety of styles, from classic A-line to flowing maxi, ensuring there's a perfect fit for every body type.

  • Comfortable Fabrics: Lightweight fabrics like cotton and rayon are ideal for sundresses and perfect for summer or cruise vacations, keeping you cool and comfortable.  The Multi Palm 3/4 Sleeve Dress by Escape is a unique variation of a sundress with sleeves.  Some may argue this style isn't a sundress, but the more fitted top with flowy skirt is why we included it, plus the cute print gave us that fun sundress feeling!
  • Effortless Elegance: Sundresses require minimal accessorizing. Pair yours with sandals, wedges, or a pop a fun-colored handbag for an instant upgrade.

  • Versatile Styling: Whether you're heading to a brunch, a garden party, or a casual outing, a sundress can be dressed up or down to suit the occasion.

Choosing the Right Sundress

  • Consider Your Body Type: A V-neckline can elongate your torso, while a wrap dress can accentuate your waist.
  • Opt for Quality Fabrics: Investing in well-made sundresses with high-quality fabrics like those from Escape by Habitat and Oh My Gauze that will last for years to come.

  • Play with Patterns and Colors: Don't be afraid to experiment with bold patterns and vibrant colors. The teal plaid Jennifer sundress is a great example of how a fun print can really make a dress!  Patterns are also great, because they help distract the eyes from any issues we may not want to accentuate.

Sundress Styling Tips for Women Over 50

  • Embrace Classic Styles: The A-line dress is a timeless silhouette that is always flattering, especially if you carry your weight in your stomach or hip areas.  The gauze Tabasco red sundress by Oh My Gauze is a great example of this style.
